The Perfect Seasoning

After today, the blog will take a little break  - just a couple of weeks - while my husband gets some work done. Sadly, this will not be around the house, but instead on his knees. That’s ok, he can get new knees and then get some work done around the house!

But here’s a recipe you can have fun with as we move into Spring and out to our grills.  It’s just the best seasoning ever for grilling meat, chicken, seafood, and veggies - making tacos or chili, sprinkling on fries, or even sparking up a salad. I’m reinventing this recipe after visiting a restaurant on a recent trip. The waiter brought out a little dish of the stuff, and after a quick taste we put it on everything.  It was addictive and playing around with ingredients has been something of an obsession. After several experiments, I’m happy to announce that the obsession has been cured- this is a recipe I think you’ll love. The Perfect Seasoning has been road tested on my son’s crowd where it was a big hit, not just on the steaks – even on baked potatoes. Everyone asked to take a little home! Could this be the perfect party favor?

I made a big batch in about five minutes. The ingredients are probably all at hand in your spice cabinet. I’m storing The Perfect Seasoning in a pretty container to keep by the stove or put out as a condiment. I’ll be thinking of all the ways to use this and pass them along. Maybe as a sprinkle over all those stuffed eggs I always get to make the day after Easter? Happy Spring!

The Perfect Seasoning

Ingredients

2/3 cup chili powder

1/3 cup paprika

¼ cup cumin

3 tsp garlic powder ( I like the brand that has dried parsley because it’s prettier)

3 tsp onion powder

3 tsp oregano

2 tsp red pepper flakes

2 Tbsp black pepper

2 Tbsp sugar

1 ½  Tbsp Kosher salt (use any salt that is a little coarser for texture)

Directions

Mix it all up in a large bowl.

Sample - and add more pepper for heat or salt to taste.
