This was a perfect September football weekend! Really, it started Thursday night, so a long football weekend. We had some wins, “Go Vandy”. Some losses, poor Saints and, well, I’ll go with a good showing by our Titans. By half time of the Jets and Cowboys game last night, we were ready to call it a quits. The audience in our house changed with the games, but I kept the dips and chips, pigs in a blanket and cookies coming, which left me time to edit recipes. And that’s what I did all weekend long.
When I wrote the cookbook for Richard, I wasn’t worried about saying, “Cook the chicken in a large skillet,” in one sentence, and “Remove the pan from the heat.” in the next. As I’ve learned, in cookbook world if you start cooking in a skillet, you need to end in a skillet. It’s little stuff like that that makes a recipe readable to a novice cook and keeps a seasoned cook from going crazy. As I also discovered, consistency between recipes is key. If one says, “Add pasta to a 9 x 13 inch casserole that has been sprayed with cooking spray,” and the next says, “Spray a 9 x 13 inch casserole with cooking spray and add pasta.” it simply doesn’t work. That’s just the beginning. What a process! Thank goodness I have some volunteer proofreading help.
Here is my cookbook goal, and I’m hoping that putting it in writing will make it stick. I have one month from today to get everything ready for the printer. Today is September 12, my Dad’s birthday and one month from today is October 12, the day after my birthday. It seems like a pretty good plan. I appreciate all of your help and valuable suggestions. With just a month to go, I’m counting on more!
Guess what? I had a guest chef yesterday. You have a great cookbook recipe coming your way tomorrow. Here’s a hint, if you have a chocolate cake mix and chocolate pudding mix, you probably have everything you need for a sweet treat that will amaze and delight!
