Five Ingredient Wonder

Here is a revelation: I thought this book would have a target audience of young people who want a good basic cookbook that gives very thorough instruction. The fact is that it’s a good book for anyone of any age who is a little unsure in the kitchen.

I learned that last night when my husband, Sammy, did indeed attempt a 5 ingredient recipe. I TRIED not to make comments (can a person really not know how to spray cooking spray in a pan?), and was reasonably successful. He did a great job on the whole with the One of Everything Fruit Cobbler. It needed to cook a little longer to get the color I wanted so I changed cooking time. Look at this gorgeous picture and you’ll want to make this too, even if you’re a genius cook!

So here’s a cookbook preview recipe.

One of Everything Fruit Cobbler

Ingredients

1 c flour

1 c sugar

1 egg

1 stick soft butter (8 seconds in the microwave while still in the paper should do it)

1 can of your favorite fruit pie filling, apple, cherry, peach *see note

Directions

To make the topping, mix the first four ingredients together in a bowl using a fork, until crumbly.

Spray an 8 x 8 baking dish or pie pan with cooking spray.

Put pie filling in dish.

Add crumbled topping and bake at 400 degrees till browned about 30 to 40 minutes.

It’s delicious alone or with a little ice cream.

* You can certainly use fresh or frozen fruit, about 2 cups, peeled and chopped if necessary. Add 1/4 cup of sugar to the fruit.
