A Dinner Party

I’m getting to do my favorite thing again - plan a party. This one is just the best; it’s a “Destination Party”, at least for me. This morning I’m going to Monteagle with Caroline’s mom to whip up a dinner party for 10 or so of our favorite Sewanee Angels. (Don’t tell them I’m an old Rhodes graduate!) It looks like it will be a perfect evening to have supper on a gorgeous Monteagle porch and I just can’t wait.

Caroline and I have been emailing menus back and forth all week. It’s a challenge, lots of different ideas when ten college students are involved, but we’ve finally nailed it. Here goes: for appetizers we’re having crostini with two toppings, a sort of sweet and hot tomato on that’s in the cookbook and the other is a thing my husband calls stick cheese because it has dried rosemary in it. It’s so easy to make, from an old Gourmet recipe.

Here’s the Stick Cheese recipe:

Put a wedge of Brie cheese in the food processor with ½ as much butter and blend it to combine. Add some well toasted almonds, a lot of rosemary and some cracked pepper and give it a quick spin to just get it all in there. That’s it. Yum.

The salad we’re having is the famous Hot Nut Salad from Richard’s cookbook to use up my end of season basil. Our main course is Penne Pasta with Vodka Sauce and Olive Garlic Flatbread with a shaving of Pecorino Romano. Finally, dessert is Peach Rollups, a sort of peach cobbler with fresh peaches rolled up in bits of crust served with caramel ice cream. I’m hungry just writing about it.

There is one thing though…I hope someone else does the dishes!

PS: Look for a mystery guest blogger tomorrow - no internet in Monteagle!
